Joseph Kimball

Joseph Kimball was born in Preston, CT on January 9, 1732 and died in Plainfield, NH on October 22, 1822

He married on May 2, 1754 to Hannah Morgan, born October 1, 1731, died March 10, 1756

He married 2nd to Mary Clift, daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Doggett) Clift.  She was born in Marshfield, MA on October 7, 1738 and died on July 9, 1781.

He married 3rd to Eleanor Dunlop, born in Killingly, CT on October 25, 1743 and died on December 18, 1833 in Plainfield, NH

Joseph Kimball settled in Plainfield in 1764, and spent the remainder of his life there.  He was very prominent in town affairs.  He was first elected selectman and constable in 1766, and almost continuously from this time until 1792 filled some town office.  He was town clerk for sex years.  He was a delegate to the convention for the adoption of the Federal Constitution in 1788, and voted in favor of its adoption; and was a member of the Constitutional Convention of New Hampshire in 1791-2. 

He was in Capt. Russell's Co from May 3 to June 18, 1777.

He petitioned for locks on the river at Plainfield on December 2, 1796.  The inscription on his monument says, "He was the first proprietor of a farm inclosing this cemetery, A soldier of the Revolution at Fort Ticonderoga in 1776, A successful Hunter, and a kind neighbor."

He is often confused with Joseph Kimball also of Plainfield, NH.

5.  Elisha (6), b. CT, 1 Mar 1765; d. Plainfield, 3 Sep 1766

6.  Sally M. (6), b. Plainfield, NH, 15 Jul 1766; d. 9 Mar 1803; m. Stephen Maine, d. 1838; had four daughters

7.  Mary Clift (6-1002), b. Plainfield, 30 Nov 1767; d. 27 Jan 1855
