Asa Kimball
(Richard,
Richard, John, Richard,
Jacob)
Asa was born in Andover, MA on June 15, 1738.
He married on July 15, 1760 to Hulda Tapley who was born in 1738.
Asa Kimball was among a group of men who moved to the St. John river area of what is now New Brunswick, around 1775 (in the 1700's it was part of Nova Scotia). He settled in Maugerville, New Brunswick around 1775, where his brother-in-law, Alexander Tapley, already owned land.
Asa Kimball was one of a committee of twelve who requested from Massachusetts and General Washington protection from the Indians and other aggressors. Asa Kimball and Asa Perley hand-carried the request to Massachusetts, and, although no troops were sent, guns and ammunition were provided.
He removed to Bridgton, Maine about 1785-6. In 1787 he bought a lot in Bridgton, and built a rope-walk some 300 feet in length. As an old man, Asa moved to Bethel, Maine, where he lived in the family of his grandson, Moses Stone Kimball.
He is buried in the cemetery on the place (Bethel, ME).
His oldest six children were baptized in Boxford, Mass.
